Success stories
Dominic Lawrence
My name is Dominic Lawrence I'm fourteen years old I came to Grafham Grange around May 2005. I was nervous in starting the new school because I failed in other schools and wasn't to sure what to expect. I had been in foster care for the last 10 years and had been to 36 different foster homes.
My first few months at Grafham were very difficult as I got used to the school the other pupils and the staff. There was one point when I thought I was going to fail at Grafham. It was then that I realised how much I liked the school and didn't want to leave, with the help of the staff and my commitment I was able to turn around my behaviour.
"It was then that I realised how much I liked the school and didn't want to leave."
I want to stay at this school not only because I like the pupils and the staff, but because this is the only place I've been able to settle down in I feel a part of the school. I have a load of friends and loads of support with my SATS that are coming up soon.
I think what worked for me that was the fact that the school and the staff didn't give up on me I could have easily been kicked out for some of my behaviour. I'm still here and trying to work towards a year 12 and 13 placement at Grafham Grange and then, hopefully, go to university.
I still get things wrong but I have much better ways of dealing with anger or upset.
